If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land (Isaiah 1:19).

You prayed about the vocational opportunity and received an answer from God. However, you disagree with the directive. What do you do? In brief, follow his lead. Your obedience will payoff. This blog post sheds light on a few of the benefits.

3 Benefits

  • He will bring you out.

Elijah found himself hiding in a cave to escape Jezebel's wrath. Ready to give up, he thought everything was a loss. And the Lord said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to king over Syria: And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room (1 Kings 19:15-16).

Think about it. God instructed Elijah to go back to the place of trouble. What is more, Elisha would become his replacement. But look what happened. Then, he ascended to heaven. And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven (verse 11).

Even though the prophet was fearful he followed God. Elijah, like Enoch, avoided death and was taken to heaven. What a promotion!

  • He will cause you to thrive despite the circumstances.

Often the Lord will provide directions that in the natural make no sense. That is why walking by faith is essential. You cannot trust what you see or hear.

During the famine, Isaac received instructions to avoid Egypt. Genesis 26:2-3 says, And the Lord appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee. Isaac sowed in a dry place where nothing was growing.

For all that, he became a wealthy man. Genesis 26:13 tells us, And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: (Genesis 26:13).

  • He will surprise you.

Luke 5:1-6 tells the story of Peter's miraculous catch of fish. After fishing all night and coming up empty (the fish were not biting) he and his partners decided to call it quits. Nevertheless, Jesus told Peter, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch" (verse 4). As a result of Jesus' insight, they received a net breaking blessing of fish.

At the same time, Jesus knew how Peter could pay the taxes. He replied, "Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee (Matthew 17:27).

God has surprises for you too. Therefore, be willing to walk by faith.
